ROAD, FOOTPATH, AND STREET LAMPS WANTED.

To the Editor. SlB, —Having noticed in your paper of late several complaints about the dangerous condition of our footpaths, will you kindly permit me, through your columns, to ask the Corporation :—“ What is to become of the inhabitants on the north side of St. David street, between Clyde and Forth street, who have neither road, footpath, nor lamp ?” There is a footpath on one side of this portion of the street, but it is of little or no use to the numerous inhabitants on the other side. In crossing this would-be street one gets knee-deop in mud (it being completely cut up by cart traffic), and occassionally tumbles into a clump of scrub —particularly at night—as there is no light to show the way. I may here remark, that there is an avenue leading from St, David street on to the hill, the residents on which have great difficulty in getting supplied with domestic wants, even by paying extra for damage done to horses’ legs, &c.; indeed, I know coal merchants who have actually refused to supply them, owing to the extremely bad state of the road. Instead of repairing roads and foothpaths which are already passable, the Corporation would confer a great benefit on the parties living in this locality by providing some of the above, if not all.—l am, &c., _ Ratkp \.yeb. Dunedin, July 27.
