Wellington, July 20. In the House of Representatives the following members took the oath and their seats : Sir George Grey (received with loud cheers), Messrs Geo. M'Lean, Von der Hyde, Ward, and Dignan. The issuing of a writ for the election of a member for Wallace, vice Mr Webster, deceased, was left in the hands of the Speaker, who will make it returnable with all reasonable despatch. Notice of the usual Sessional Committees were given. The Native Minister briefly announced the causes which had led to the resignation and the re-construc-tion of the Ministry, Tho following papers were laid on the table : —The Commission of his Excellency the Marquis of Normanby, despatches from the Secretary of State to the Governor, despatches from tbe Governor to the Secretary of State; on emigration to New Zealand, letters from the Agent-General anl letters to the AgentGeneral ; immigration returns, showing the numbers assisted and nominated, the rate of passage money, the amount paid, the amount in promissory notes, a statement of tho cost of chartering four ships in London. Correspondence within tbe Colony re immigration ; tho petition of Sir George Grey to the Secretary of State, and correspondence connected therewith ; a report from officers in the Native districts ; a letter relative to Sir Julius Vogel’s detention in England ; a report by the Inspector of Surveys ; a report on Lunatic Asylums ; reports by Alex. Maokar, the laud purchaser in the Middle Island ; papers relative to the New Zealand University; an 1 a number ot petitions presented, including one by Mr O’Neil regarding increased representation for the Thames. Mr M'Lean gave a notice of motion to introduce a Protection to Animals Amendment Bill. Mr Inglis gave notice of moving an address in reply. Mr MTiCan gave notice to propose Mr O’Rorke as Chairman of Committees, and that in future the House sit at 2.30, and rise at 9.30, and resume at 7.30. The House adjourned till 2.30 to-morrow.
