WASTE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Board was held to-daj r , present The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs Strode, Bastings, Clark and Held.

The following was the principal business transacted : Mr David tnnnott’a application to purchase 200 acres in block 2, Ciarendoa district, open land between two bushes, was refused. The Chief Commissioner asked the Board what action was to be taken in reference to run 413, the license for which will terminate on July 26, 1876. It was resolved that the Chief Commissioner communicate with the Government, and proceed at once to take action. Mr G. F. C. Browne wrote withdrawing his objections to the application of Mr IT. L. Squires for section 47, block 10 and also to that of Messrs Herbert and M'Kinlay for section 48, block 10, Waitahuna hast, if the laud was not reserved for commonage. The letter was read, and it was resolved that the sections be now again adverti-ed as open for sale, Mr Daniel Anderson applied to purchase 4CO acres now called sections 22 and 23, block 1, Tuapeka West. The application was refused, audit was resolved to lo advertised as open for application for one month. The Secretary of the Mount Ida Mining Association objected to Josrph (heighten exchanging hia agricultural for a deferred payment lease under clause 60 of the Act, also to any land being sold within a radius of four miles from Naaeby. The exchange has been declined by Government already. Tie Distiict Land Officer arked whether section 46, block 6, Tuapeka West, withdrawn from sale under protest, should not be submitted to auction subject to valuation for improvements. Messrs James Preston and F. J. Tress well asked the Board to have more quarter-acre sections surveyed in Fcrtroso township, and opened for sale,'as they were desirous of purchasing one or more of them. Referred to Government in reference to survey, Mr George Pache requested that he might be appoin* ed sale.'.man for (mown lauds situated within the Dunstan district. No change to be made at present. The District Land Officer at Queenstown recommended that Mr Ihoa. George Betts should be appointed member of tlTe Board cf inquiry there, in the place of Mr Halienstein who h-M resigned. -Approved, Messrs W. Draper and Edward Houghau requested that section 46, block 2, Tuapeka East district, should be sold in one lot, and not, as previously decided, bo cut up and sold in two parts with improvements added. To be sold by auction, with usua 1 . conditions, in one lot.

The report of Ranger Kughan was read in regard to improvements effected by licensees on land held b. them under the deferred payment system within the southern district; and forwarding a list of persons proposed to bo rjected in consequence of non fu’fi’mcnt of conditions. The letter was read, and it was resolve! that action t~eject be postponed till further inquiry it; mado ; the next tour by the Banger to be made witbia three mouths, and tho report to be submitted before the end of October,

Ranger Yalpy wrote asking for instruc lions with regard to contractors and road meu cutting timber for public purposes on Crown lands. Ranger to allow actual pub lie road officers and their men to take timber for public works. Mr John MtParlane, tf Kaitangata, per Mr Gillie?, applied to have Ids lease extended to twenty-one yeais. or that the land

shoul dbe sold subject to valuation. Provided Mr M'Farlane will abandon his lease the Board will agree to put up the land for sale at an upset price per aero, with valuation added. On hia agreeing, this resolution to be submitted to the Superintendent. Mr W. Brown, for Messrs J. W. Telford and J. Shaw, applied for sections 1 and 2, block 22, Clutba district. Ho stated that the land applied for had been lately reserved for railway purposes, but had not been required. The application was postponed, pending the certificate of the engineer. Mr John M'Lean requested that section 30, block 1, sections 1, 3, and 5, block 2, Beaumont; sections 37 and 50, block 3, Tuapeka West, should be advertised open for application, and s >!d as ordinary rural land. To he advertised for one month as open for sale, with the sanction of the Superintendent. Mr Driver, for Mr Thomas Murray, applied for section 44, block 3, Table Hill district, under the forest-planting regulations. Approved under the usual regulations.
