IMMIGRATION.
The returns furnished to ua by Mr Monson show that there arrived at. Port Chalmers during June, from Great Britain,_ 175 men, 88 women, and 99 children, or 362 in all; from New South Wales, 1 woman; from Victoria, 49 men, 21 women, and 37 children, or 107 in all; from Tasmania, 4men and 1 woman, and from other British ports 2 men, making a grand total of 447. There left Otago during the same period for the United Kingdom, 34 men, 17 women, and T6 children, or 67 in all; for New South Wales, 6 men, 2 women, and 2 children; and for Victoria, 55 men, 8 women, and 2 children, or 65 in all—making a grand total of 142 persons. The total in favor of the Province is therefore 335. Djiriag the halfyear ending June 30 the arrivals were: January, 1,061; February, 1,066; March, 844; April, 366; May, 992; June, 477 ; total 4,808. PS The number of persons who emigrated during the same term was—January, 80; February, 213; March, 166; April, 255; May, 330 ; June, 142; total, 1,166. Making a grand total in favor of . the Province during the half-year of 3,642 persona.
