'JTie meeting of cricketers held at the Shamrock Hotel last night, “ to consider propositions re proposed Australian match and such other business as might be brought forward,” was attended by fourteen gentlemen and presided over by Mr Or. K. Turton. . In reference to the first and more important business, Mr Meabes explained what the subcommittee had done since last meeting. They first considered the probable cost of bringing a team from Victoria, and arrived at this estimate Passages for twelve men to Dunedin, L 13 2; seven days’ stay in Dunedin, at 10s each, L 42 ; passages to Christchurch, L 36; and seven days* stay there, L 4 2; passages to Wellington, L 24, and five days’ stay there, LSO; passages to Nelson, 1.24, and five days’ stay there, LSO ; passages to Ashland, L 36, ami seven days’ stay there, > Passages to Sydney, Ll2O ; and passages x orr 6 m lc^?? an s * x from Sydney to Melbourne io tins total of L 585 the sub-committee thought it politic to add for contingencies and expenses, L 165 bringing it up to L 750, and the latter amount they divided as follows Otago, Canterbury, and Auckland, Ll7s,eacb, fclson and LU2 each. The decision of the Canterbury cricketers, as conveyed in the from* W«fe amS J a 8 L night was read, and from Wellington Mr Meares read a telegram r» {l T; After much discussion, Mr Collinßoa brought forward a proposition

that the Provinces should contribute the required L 750, in equal shares ; but the meeting carried a counter-proposition by Mr Cohen, that on behalf of the Otago cricketers it guaranteed L 175 as the Province’s contribution, on the assumption that no more than L 750 was required. It appeared to be the unanimous opinion of the meeting that L 750 was amply sufficient. A motion was made that in the representative match, Victoria v. New Zealand, fifteen players representing the various Provinces should meet the visiting team at a place hereafter to be determined; and while various opinions were expressed as to the number who should represent this Colony, it was the unanimous feeling of the meeting that it was inadvisable to carry any resolution that might tend to hamper the action of other Provinces.

The matter of damage to the D.C.O.’a wicket on the oval, by reason of football being played over it, was warmly discussed, and a resolution calling the Dunedin Football Club’s attention to it was passed. There was some discussion upon a proposal to deal with a surplus in the hands of the Interprovincial Match Committee. On the one hand, it was agreed that the collection of the moneys was for general purposes; that there was a deficit in respect of the Dunedin-Invercar-gill match ; and that, as part of the moneys had be3n devoid to purposes foreign to the interprovincial match, the balance should be handed over to the D.0.0. to meet the deficiency upon the Invercargill match. On the other hand, it was contended that the public subscribed solely to the expenses of the Canterbury-Otago match; that the Dunedin-Invercargill match was a private one between these two clubs; and that the balance should be carried forward towards defraying the expenses of the next interprovincial match. The meeting resolved to band over the money to the D.C.O.
