CRICKET.

To the Editor. Sib, —1 am sorry to hear that the surplus jfc'oneya collected for the late Interprovineial - Can terbury Match were voted last evening to the Jluaedin 0. C. towards defraying the expenses* the late match D. C., O. V. Invercargill U. 0. There is a principle involved in this matter which must not be overlooked. If the public sabscribo to an “interprovineial*’ match they necessarily expect their money to be devoted to that object, and not, because ultimately it should turn out there is a surplus in hand, that sucih surplus should be applied to* match of any mingle club. lam a member of the D. C. (X, mna wrlte these lines in a friendly, spirit for of “ the noble garner” hut

I would point out to cricketers that if they fool the public, the public will euchre them by not subscribing next year. Let the D. C. C. members be men, and pay their own debts. I will contribute a sov. towards the deficiency in the Invercargill match. In bye-gone days the members used to contribute freely towards any deficiency, and for the honor of the Club I trust the committee of the D. C. C. will take an independent and manly stand, and refuse to accept the surplus Canterbury fund.— I am, &c., _ , JOHNWY. Dunedin, June 24.
