We were in hopes the * Daily Times ’ was completely cured of the Vosel-phobia with which it was so dreadfully afflicted some two years ago j but, unfortunately, symptoms of relapse are beginning to manifest themselves. Two of its articles this morning are devoted to detraction of tho Premier, who, with the characteristic unfairness of • ur contemporary, is represented as unscrupulous in his conduct as a politician, and only more successful than Ministers who preceded him, because he chanced to hold office in more prosperous times. With strange infatuation, “the wretched past” is ignored, and equal credit claimed for men whose mismanagement involved the Colony ® reckless war expenditure, with a Minister who, through reversal of their policy has raised the character and credit of the' Colony in the eyes of/he world. Giving Messrs Stafford. Domett, and the “ heaven born ” clique of legislators to which they belonged, credit for good intentions ip their endeavors “to conquer a peace/’ experience has shown chat their ways were the road to ruin. 1 hey were based upon wrong principles, and abundantly illustrated the truth that they “ who sow the wind will reap the whirl■rind.” Ihat the ‘Daily Times’ identifies itself with the mistakes of the past is no thing new ; that cannot comprehend the financial position of the Colony is nothing new ; that it is endeavoring to weaken confidence in the Premier is nothing new; that it is trying to effect this by detraction and unfounded assertions is nothing new. During the last two years a slight improvement in its tone of treatment of Colonial affairs was perceptible; but, we fear, instead of continuing to advance, it is relapsing into imbecility,
