PEDESTRIANISM.

The pedestrian Edwards started on his task —to walk 100 miles in twentv-four hours—at 5.10 p.m. yesterday at the Drill-shed. He walks at a good pace, averaging about one mile in every twelve minutes, or five miles per hour, and at 10.10 p.m. (five horns) had completed twenty-five miles. Then he had a s-.ell for three-quarters of an hour and commenced again doing fifty miles in 9h. 56min., without including the stoppage. Kero Edwards had an hours rest, and then again started on his monotonous walk, completing seventy-five miles in 14h. 4omin. 20scc. He then had his last spell, an hour, and started on the most trying part of the undertaking—the last twenty-five miles. ,\t 12H0 to-day (15 hours 41 min. 10 sec.) lie had walked 80 miles, and was beginning to show smis of fatigue, though thiswas mostly owing to asevero cold, and to his feet being very sore. Howrs confident of success, though it was evident that he milst be suffering considerably. Several of our local pedestrians -amongst them being J Campbell, J. Scott, F. Wain, and W. Stuart—took a ten or twelve-mile turn with Edwards to enliven the proceedings. The Drill-shed was largely visited both yesterday and to-day, and a great deal of interest was shown in the match. Edwards finished the distance at 5.5 p.m., thus completing his task with five minutes to spare.
