The most important item of the Australian news by the Alhambra is the confirmation by the New South Wales Assembly of the contract made by Sir Julius Vogel with the Eastern Telegraph Company for the laying of a cable to connect this Colony with Australia. The two Colonies guarantee the company a subsidy of L 7,500 a year for ten years, this Colony contributing L 5.000 a year and New fcquth Wales the balance. The cable is to be laid within twelve months, and the minimum charge will be 7s fid for a u essage of ten words.
