THE CATTLE YARDS.

To the Editor.

Sir, —Kindly allow me a small space in your journal to make a complaint about the situation of the cattle yards. As a number of your readers are aware the yardo arc situated in the centre of a populous suburb, and close to the Linden Schoolhouse, and are a source of great inconvenience and anxiety to the residents of the neighborhood, for it is almost unsafe for persons (particularly women and children) to walk oui on market day (every Wednesday). I think the time has come when the yards should be removed to a greater distance from town, and I understand that tho majority of the butchers are in favor of their removal either to Half-way Bush or Green Island. I suppose it is absolutely useless to ask our M.P.O. to do anything for us in the matter, but I think the local Road Board might in tho course of their duties take up the matter bn behalf of the residents, and have the necessity for the removal represmted in the proper quarter, and I feel certain that success will follow their endeavors. The matter should be taken up at once, so that, if necessary, advantage might be taken of the Council being now in session. By inserting thisj-ou will confer a favor on tho writer, as well as on all the- ratepayers in and about _ Rosltn. Dunedin, June 16.
