HARBOR DUES.
tin the 28th of April last the Finance Committe of the Harbor Board asked the Government to sanction the following dues, which it proposes to levy, and which, if agreed to, “ will, it is calculated, produce about L 12.000 o: L 13.000 per annum, which, together with the pilotage and port charges, will afford a sufficient revenue for the purposes of the Board”;— On all goods landed at the Railway Wharf, Port Chalmers, there shall he paid a charge of Is per ton; on every bole of wool exported, Gd per bale; on grain and all other goods exported from Port Chalmers Railway Wharf to go beyond the Colony, Is per ton; ou all goods landed nt any other wharf or wharves there shall be paid a charge of 2s per ton; on all goods except wool exported beyond the Colony, 2s per ton; on every bale of wool exported, Gd per bale; on every 100 ft sawn timber 4d, or 3s 4d per 1.000 ft; on every ton of coal, firewood, &0., Is per ton; on all goods transhipped to other ports, half-rates; every vessel (sailing) Is 4d per ton gross register per day, or part of a day, for berthing at any wharf not being a railway wharf; every steamer Is 4d per ton gross register per day, or part of a day, for berthing at any wharf not being a railway wharf.
In forwarding this scale the Secretary expresses the Board’s belief that “it will be cheerfully agreed to.” The Board has not yet received any answer from the Government.
