PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council took place last evening, when there were present—The Mayor, Cis. Rose, Miller M'Grregor, Dodson, Asher, M'Kenzie, Middleditch, and Menelaus. Communications were received from Mr Job Wain, wishing to be informed if the Council would be willing to lease sections 27, 28, and 29, block 4, Purakanui District. Referred to Reserves Committee. From Mr J. M‘Donald, asking the Council to take steps to stop persons from cutting trees, &c., opposite his section, No. 351. Referred to Reserves Committee. From Mr Moir, Inspector of Waterworks. Referred to the Engineer. From Mr Robt. Roberts, requesting the balance of L 23 12s, t he proceeds of the sale of ahorse, his property, which was impounded and sold. Referred to Finance Committee. From the Corporation Solicitor, requonting.that i
the Crown Grants of the rural sections might be registered;-from Mr Pearce, contractor for waterworks, requesting progress payment, and stating that “the Council having failed to comply with our conditions of contract*in re* spect to payment and other matters, I hereby insist on payment in cash for that already executed, and will enforce all due to me as to pi ofits on the contract, and will desist proceeding with the works until such time as some proper understanding is arrived at.” from Mr Campbell,' engineer, authorising progress payment to the extent of L 235 inoonnectxou wx hj the Waterworks; and from Mr Austin, claiming L2O for use of road in Sawyer’s Bay.
ihe following tenders for leasing Corporation sections were read:—From Mr E. ferldns offering L 5 per annum for the Bluff Point, between sections 222 and 223, for quarrying purposes, which was accepted; from Mr Webster, offering L 4 per annum for 40ft by 30ft at the Bluff point, Macandrew Terrace, which was referred to the Reserves Committee ; and from Mr James Dove, offering L 4 per annum for section 138, Island Terrace, which was accepted. Reports from the Finance and Reserves Committees and luspector of Works were received and adopte f. On the motion of Cr. Asher, it was resolved that a piece of ground near the old jetty be set ; aside for a Corporation depdt. and that copies ’■ of the Citizens’roll bo printed. On the motion of Cr. Asher, it was resolved that the Lighting Committee wait upon the,. Las Company in reference to the lighting of the lamps for the ensuing year. Cr. Miller wished to bring under the notice of the Council that the member for Port Chalmers in the General Assembly had not visited the Poi't for some time to give an account of bis stewardship, and moved that the Council take steps to ask him to do so. An amendment by Cr. M‘Kenzie— to the effect “ that if the member does not think fit to come without being asked, that the Council do not ask him”—wa# carried, and the Council adjourned.
