ATHLETIC SPORTS.

To the Editor. Sib, —Can any of your readers inform me if we are likely to have any more athletic sports in Dunedin before next New Year’s-day ? Some months ago I read in the newspapers that the Caledonian Society were going to open their new grounds at Kensington at an early date. Now, as I took my Sunday’s ramble round that lively suburb, I could discover no signs of a start having been made. 1 think this is a pity, as interest in athletic sports can only be kept up by frequent meetings, which is not the case at present, as we have only two a year at most. If regular monthly sports were held our athletes wduld have seme inducement to keep themselves in form, and new men would be continually coming to the front. ‘Would it not be possible to hold sports in some large building, such as the Drill-shed (where, by the way, Edwards is going to walk his 100 miles) ? I have several times witnessed very successful sports in the Lambeth Baths in London, where the competitors run against time round a much smaller circle than could be obtained in the Drill-shed. In conclusion, I have to express my hopes that some of our leading men will take this matter up and afford eur young men a means of innocent recreation, and keep them out of mischief.—l am, &c.. Old Sport. Dunedin, May 31.
