MORE LIGHT.
To the Editor. Slß,—Having for many months had occasion to pass over the road leading from Dunedin to Boslyn after dark, I have been frequently much inconvenienced by the absence of lamps through the Town Belt, During the winter months those who Are unfortunate enough to reside in the vicinity of Roslyu have to trudge totheir homes without the slightest possibility (through the absence of light to enable them to avoid the muddy portions of the road) of doing so with comfort. Some time ago it was found necessary to station a constable on the road, in consequence of insults having been offered to several pedestrians by vagrants, who were in the habit of loitering in the vicinity of the quarry, in order to frighten pa-sers-by, and to InHmprf °i instances of attempts to intimidate ladies beintr made bv fb.Kip wK^hen^V 11 Vt Rnd in oth er districts, 7o‘SbfcS l u P - 3 enable < to do so with little chance of being detected 1 would,.therefore, nfge upon the authorities the advisability of at once rectifying theevil*
which has so long existed, by placing lamps at convenient intervals along the roadVbetween the City and the more populous of its suburbs, such as Caversham, Mornington, and Roslyn, as, by doing so they would confer ajgreatjboon upon the inhabitants.—l am, &c., M. S.tl. Roslyn, May 3L
