Monday, Mat 31. (Before A. Meroer, Esq., and J. Brown, Esq. J.P.’s) Abusive Language.— Joseph Attwood was charged with using abusive language on the Main South road. Green Island—-Constable Yemon produced the language which he alleged accused bad used; and Robert M'Oracken, bootmaker, and the Rev. Mr Watt gave corroborative evidence.—The Bench, while having no doubt that the language stated had been used, dismissed the case, holding that there was not sufficient proof as to who used it. Drunk and Disorderly. —Wm. Doolanwas fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment; Michael Laffiu, Andrew Kussick. and Joseph Hughes, 5s or twenty-four hours 1 ; Walters. Willis was discharged. Vagrancy. Margaret M'Lachlan was charged by Detective Shury with soliciting prostitution on Sunday morning in one of the main streets. She was fined 20s, with the alternative of seven days’ imprisonment. Thepy —John Hunter was charged, on the information of John Cully, with stealing, about the 14th of March, a quantity of wearing apparel, the property of the prosecutor. John Gully,(laborer, who came to New Zealand in the ship Oamaru, in company with the prisoner, said that he left his box with him previoub to his going to Tokomairiro* On his return to Dunedin he went for his box, and on ex« atnmmg it found some of its contents missing. On questioning accused as to where the clothes hed gone, he told him that they were in pawn. —-Ihe Bench said it was a great pity for a lad that had just come out to the Oolony to have his character blemished. They would sentence mm to one month’s imprisonment, and hoped that at the termination of the sentence he would obtain employment up-oountrv and try to recover hxs character.
