WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present—The Chief Commissioner, M essrs Bastings, Clark, Keid, and Strode.
Mr. C. Sproull asked to be allowed to abandon sec. 39, bl. 7, Waipahee, taken up by him on deferred payments, and recei re refund of valuation paid for fencing. The Board decided that the law did not enable it to do anything in the matter. Mr I. Taylor applied to purchase fifty acres of Hawksbnry bush reserve adjoining secs. 33, 34, and 35, bl. 6, Hawkabury, for tree planting. Nothing to be done at present.
The Provincial Solicitor forwarded his opinion as to whether one pera m could apply for more th in one section under clause 49 of the Act, to the effect that he could see no objection to such, bat that the Board could not issue a license to anyone to occupy more than 200 acres.
The Ranger at Queenstown naked whether deferred payment or agricultural lessees may cut and sel bush from the lands leased to them. ihe Board decided that tb y can do so.
Mr W. E. Griffiths asked to be allowed to purchase a small piece of reserved ground adjoining sec. 1, bl. 2, Highley, purchased by him. Referred to District Land Officer for advice.
Mr W. Cameron asked to occupy a small island in Te Anau Lake, called Tiaka, for the purpose of depasturing stock. The Invercargill District Land Officer to be informed that the Board has no objection to grant the request under clause 161, if he knows of none.
Mr J. Muir applied for sin months’ protection to prospect for lignite on Blackman’s creek, Earn sole ugh station. The Board had no objections, and the application was granted.
Messrs W. M'Phee and J. Phillips stated that they had been catting timber on their private property only, and asked that Ranger Hungerford’s report be contradicted. They also stated that Mr Hungerford was “ con* tinually trespassing on their land, armed with gun and revolver.” The matter was referred to the Banger for explanation. The Lawrence District Land officer reported on the application by the Lawrence Town Connell for fifty acres on Wetherston’s Flat for forest tree planting. No action to. be taken in the matter as yet. Mr G. Worsdell applied to occupy part of the Outran recreation reserve, section 32 block 7, Manngatua, for a fellmongery. The Board decided that it had no power to deal with the application. Mr B. S. Creagh tendered to auction lands within boundaries of new land district to be assigned to Mr Nngent Wood, at } per cent, commission. Approved. The District Surveyor reported on Mr Wilson’s application for land at JSaseby objected to by the Mount Ida miners’ association. To await the general survey. Mr A. Mann applied for twenty acres of bosh reserve, sec. 4, bl 8, Maungatua, and for a mill site there. Referred to Ranger for report. Mr Keid brought before the Board a resolution of the Provincial Government relative to the sale of certain sections in Heriot Hundred, to be reserved and sold as land of certain value. Approved; the grounds being improvements, fencing, cost of survey, and otherwise.
