SHOCKING ACCIDENT.

A very serious accident happened on the Dunedin and Port Chalmers KaiUvay line last night. It appears that Thomas Borland, laborer, of Athol place, was walking along the lino towards his house last evening,'at about 7.50 o’clock, and when he reached the end of Hanover street his right foot got jammed between the rails and he was unable to extricate himself, Tha up-train, the last one thatlwght, at this time had just left- the Pelichet Station, and although Borland called for help; the train hud passed over hia left leg a little below the knee before any assistance could be rendered. Some neighbors then got him extricated and had him placed on a door and conveyed to the Hospital. Borland was insensible when admitted to that institution, and as he continued in that state to day no hopes of his recovery are entertained.
