RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT PORT CHALMERS.

Skip Desertion.—Robert Glen and Willi 'm Black, seamen of the ship Timaru, were charged on the information of Captain Rankin with desertion.—The prisoners pleaded guilty, and were sentenced to be imprisoned for twelve weeks with hard labor, the captain to have the option of taking them on board should the ship sail before the expiration of the sentence.— John Carr, a seaman of the same vessel, also pleaded guilty to deserting the ship. He was remanded until Tuesday next on the applic - tion of Mr Monson, of the Customs’, in consequence of five pounds of tobacco having been found in his possession when arrested.
