THE HARBOR BOARD.

To the Editor. Sir, — Do the favor of re-publishing my letter from this morning’s ‘ Daily Times.’—l am, &c., H. Tew ley. Dunedin, April 30. Sir, — I see lam referred to by name in a flowery letter in your contemporary’s columns of to-day by one signing himself “ Observer.” Observer ”wid pardon me for advising him in future to sign himself “ Non-Observer,” and to eschew poetry when writing to the papers. A good many persons (well-wishers to the Baarcl) have, in conversation, asked me to take notice of the various letters appearing in the papers re Harbor Hoard, and the adverse newspaper articles on the same subject. So, as I have the honor of being mentioned byname, I once for all do bo, and it is to say to the public that the active members of the Board have been long before you, and are as wellknow as the Town Clock is. Are they men of known integrity and business tact? If you think so, trust them, wait for results, and FKiy no attention to the letters addressed to you through the papers, often so stupid as to carry W1 ij i® 1 ie * r own condemnation, never, or seldom if ever, free from gross errors and misstatements, and frequently emanating from disappointed men; nor believe all the leading articles you read, written oitentirnes by men in the private interests of those who have, perhaps, power oyer the _ poor devils of writers, and speaking anything but their real opinions. \Ve all know how hard it is to be independent when one’s sources of living are in peril. This is the first letter I have written on the Harbor Board, and it will be the last. It is quite enough to give one’s time, as I do, to actual work, without being looked to to reply to a lot of stupid and interested effusions, I am, &c., _ , Heiiby Tewsley. Dunedin, April 29.
