Braithwaite, comer of High and Fleet streets, Dunedin. * The Young Ladies’ ’ has a new «tory commenced month, called “His Word -of Honor. The author’s name is not given, so the story must stand upon its own nave not had time for more , than-a -passing glance but, judging by what little wVtarfe seen, it appears to be fairly, interesting. . The patterns for needle and fancy work arts numerous and good, especially ahead dre*s of lace, a crochet antimacassar, infant’s knitted boots! and tlje various designs for wool mats which are given on a separate sheet. The'gigantic supplement contains numberless fashions for dresses, bonnets, and jackets; the traced pat. tern fora polonaise is very pretty and simple; a wreath and monogram, in French embroidery, would make a very pretty design for a tea cosv —the monogram, o fcourse, wuld be ghangadto suit the different names, * Bow Bella’ contains some very entertaining essays on domestic,, and scientific subjects. When George the Second , waa King, -The Stolen Will, 11 and other stories arecontmued, and anewstoryentitled, “ Pomps and Vanities,” is commenced this month. Ihe numerous .designs for needlework and ladies and children’s dresses. are good and usefiiL The supplement contains some beautiful designs for embroidery for .the oornep of pocket handkerchiefs, monograms, laoe ,Mrork| also; the traced pattern of a very handsome walking jacket, directions for cutting out, trimming, and making up. The ‘ London Journal ’ is quite up to the usual mark, and has much that is amusing and in* struct!ve. The tales which were begunjn earlier numbers are continued', and a new one by Pierce Egan, entitled, “False and Frail,” £ begun. Phe ladies' supplement contains a full* sized-traced attern of a handsome jacket, and tiie usual diagrams and patterns lor lad&i defies. In the Family Herald,’ “ The Shadow of a sin’’ isponojuded. “The Loom of the Albatross,” and ojher stories are .continued. A new tate called, “ Could aught atone,” by the author of Legacy,” is promised fqr next month. f; v
