This company has issued its second yearly report and balance-sheet. As a meeting was held in October last, only six months’ business is really dealt with. The directors express regret at unavoidable delays having occurred iu the progress of the works, but say that the blast furnace will be completed in a few days, and from the information to , oy believe that the furnace fires will be lighted, early in the month of August next. The five thousand acres of laud in the Mou Block, raraiiaki granted to the company under the provisions of the Taranaki Iron Smelting Works Lauds Act, 1874 wi 1 shortly be surveyed, and os soon as this is done the Board hoped to be placed in possession of the land grant. The Provincial Council of Taranaki are settling immigrants on the Moa Block, and making such improvements that at a recent sale ©f part of it, rural sections brought prices ranging from LI 6s to L 3 11s per acre. The Board express regret at the course adopted by tie majority of the Duuediu shareholders, which led to r gal proceedings be;ng taken for the recovery of calls, with the result that a very large portion of the overdue amount has been collected and the balance is rapidly coming iu. They have summoned every defaulter, and are determined in all cases to force immediate payment of the calls ns they come due. A suggestion has been mode by several shareholders resident m Duuediu, that, as a large body of the company’s shareholders reside in that city, they should have a voice at the board of directors; aud, as the suggestion seems a reasonable one, the director.- recommend that a Dunedin shareholder, having the requisite qualification, should be appointed to fill one of the vacancies now existing. New Zealand wheat was sold at 4s 3d, and the marset has improved. Sales of Victorian, 4s lid to 5s osd. New Zealand oats sold at 3s lid to 4s. There was a large demand for teas, chiefly boxes. Sugars are selling well at full rates. The scarcity of EngUsh malt has created a demand for malting barley
