Gbahamstown, April 13. Thomas Edwards, on remand, was to-day charged with shooting with intent to murder John Toovey. Evidence was taken at length. The medical evidence was to the effect that Toovey was suffering from shot-wounds below the knee. Accused made a long statement, admitting the offence. He said that prosecutor had three or four times seduced his wife from home, and disgraced him and his family, and rendered his life miserable, besides mining his prospects. He had therefore determined to be revenged, but did not intend to kill Toovey, but cripple him. Accused was committed for trial

William M Donald committed suicide on Sunday in the Blenheim lock-up by strangling himself with a leather strap, which he fastened round his throat and tied to the toe of his left foot. He was in custody on a charge of attempting to destroy himself. At the inquest the verdict was ‘Suicide whilst laboring under mental aberration.
