WASTE LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Board was held this day ; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Bastings, Bulterworth, Clarke, Reid, and Strode. Messrs Webb and Fulton, for Mr Morgan, applied for a renewal of lease of White Rock reserve, block 4, Oamaru Government to be asked to cut up the sections into lots, one lot having the substantial improvements, being*protected by valuation, to be made by the surveyor. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for J. F, Her* Wt, a ked reconsideration of the decision in Mr Herbert’s application to purchaie land in'blocks 4 and 5, Grenvale. Former decision to be adhered to. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Mr W. H. Millar, asked to be allowed to complete the purchase of section 44, block 3, Table Hill. Refused. Messrs Gillies and Street, for the Bruce Coal Co., applied to purch*e part of section 33, block 1, Akatore, with the consent of Mr Falconer, the original applicant. Survey to be made, and then to be added to lease already granted, and under the same terms. Messrs Stewart and Doughty, for Mr 0. Falconer, applied to purchase part of section 33, block 1, Akatore, he being the original applicant. Adjourned till the survey is made. Mr George Thomson applied to purchase sections 31 and 46, block 1, Maungatua, at the upset price of 20s per acre. Banger to report, when passing through the district. Mr Robert Bell, in terms of the agreement between himself and the Government, applied for 63 acres 3 roods of land, to be given him as compensation for the road line taken through his property at Waihola. Approved. Messrs Gellibrand and Smith applied to purchase pre emptive right on run 218, to secure buildings and cultivated paddock. Approved; survey to he submitted. Ranger Hughan reported on the islands in the Clutha River, as requested, and it was decided that they be retained. Mr W, Shanks stated that section 14, block 10, Waikaka, has been taken on deferred payments, in opposition to the terms of the Act, and that he was willing to prove his statements. Referred to the District Land Officer for his remarks. Mr J. Chilfolk applied fora lease of coal reserve, block 1, Waikaka. To be leased ; Commissioner to communicate with applicant.
Messrs Kidd and Black stated that the seam of the coal pit applied for on the 7th inst, is not sufficiently thick to work, and asked an extension of time to prospect for A new seam, at Happy Valley, near Switzers. Adjourned for D. L. C.’s repart. The Commissioner of Police notified that the sale of the land applied for by the Church of England Committee at Kaseby, adjoining the police camp, will not interfere with the police arrangements. To be sold by auction, at an upset price of L 3 per acre. The Provincial Solicitor notified that the conditions had not been complied with on certain coal leases for land at Preservation Inlet. Lessees to be asked to surrender.
Mr W. A. Murray, for Mr A. Ross, asked that the application lodged by him for land at Waitahnna West may be granted, as the laad is not auriferous. Referred to the D. ! . O. for advice.
The D. L. O. reported that the upset price fixed by the Board for land applied for by Mr G. P. JSewmarch ia excessive, and proposed the sum ot 1 10 for the acre applied for. Postponed till the arrival of the Chief Surveyor. Mr W. Telford reapplied to purchase section 4, block 2, South Molyneux, it having been forfeited through non-payment of balance of purchase money, within the time required by the Act. To be sold by auction under former orders.
Mr W. J. Scrimgeour applied to purchase at 20s per acre, section 38, block 7, Portohello, till recently a cemetery reserve, but now abandoned by Ordinance. Refused, the Board having no power to sell it. Mr D. P, Main applied to purchase sections 5, block 6, and 19, block 7, Rock and Pillar, under agricultural lease. .Approved. Mr Jacob bhackleton, of Waipori Junction, applied to purchase his agricultural leases, or at least two or three acres of the land. Referred to the Government for information.
Mr Thomas Callcutt addressed a second letter to the Board with reference to the sale of section 43, block 11, Moeraki. The Chief Commissioner asked the members if they wished it read. Mr Reid : I have no desire to have it read. The Chief Commissioner: What shall we do, then? Mr Rum : Put it under the table, or in the waste paper basket. The Chief Commissioner : 1 see it is extremely persona]. Mr Reid :It is sufficient that the matter has been already dealt with M r Butterworth ; The matter has been closed, and we mast decline to reopen it. It was accordingly minuted that the matter having been disposed of the Board declined to reopen it.
