Tuesday, March 30. (Before Y. Pyke and A, C. Begg, Esqs.,

Drunkenness. Mary Davis and Wm. Ryder were each fined ss, with the alternative twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Trespass. Lucy Brooks was charged by Alex. Cairns, Government Inspector, with trespassing old Immigration Barracks, and with refusing to leave when ordered so to do. Defendant said she had six children and had not enough money to pay a week’s rent. Besides, she could not get a house. She had building by the Benevolent Institution, and considered she had been hrutallv treated by being turned out.—The Bench gave her forty-eight hours to quit the place, and informed her that unless she did so they would be forced to put the law in force, however reluctant they might be to do so, and compel her to leave by fining her or sending her to gaol,— in similar cases against Margaret Bushton, who had also been deserted by her husband, . fc five children, and Hannah U Brien, a widow, withe two children, a like course was adopted.— The Bench strongly recommended all the women to immediately see the committee of the Benevolent Institution, wno, they considered, should find them quarters.
