'he weekly meeting of the Board was lull to-day; present the Chief Comtnhsioncr, Messrs Butterworth, Clark, and Reid. Messrs Smith and Anderson applied for a lease of land lying at the head of the harbor, for the : purposes of the Peninsula and Ocean Beach Railway, being land between the City boundary and the Anderson’s Bay road at the intersection by the proposed railway,— The Chief Commissioner said the land was below high water mark, and therefore not udder the jurisdiction of the Board, but of the Admiralty—that is to say, the Governor. - -After discussion, the matter was referred to the Provincial solicitor for advice. Mr W. M'Nab, for Mr W. Bell, applied for a coal lease at Adams’s Gully, Bannock* bum. Granted, on runholder’s consent being obtained.
Mr Heriot. Robertson asked the Board to defer action in the case of a recent application for a coal lease near Cromwell. The application had not yet been dealt with, Mr W. Martin applied to purchase at II per acre sections 19, block 2, Martin’s Bay. daps of the district to be furnished and sale to be advertised in the ‘ Gazette ’ and the principal newspapers. Prices to be, for suburban sections, L2; town sections to be put up by auction on the usual terms. The Clyde D. L. 0. forwarded Messrs Chappie and North’s application that a survey might be dispensed with of their proposed water race. Survey absolutely necessary.
Mr T, W. Hungerford, appointed Conservator of Forests, Gatlin’s River district, wrote in connection with the office, asking if he was expected to give up his school in consideration of the paltry salary of L3O per annum. The Chief Commissioner took offence at the word “paltry” being made use of to the Board, —Mr b.eid said it meant ‘ trifling, little.” - The Chief Commissioner said it meant more than that—it was an expression of contempt.—Applicant to be informed that he was not expected to give up his school.
Mr J. Cleary lodged objections to a license for a water race at Spottis Creek, applied for to the Warden at Clyde, being granted to Mr T. Lee. Mr T. Spain also lodged -an objection. Noted.
Messrs Sbrangmauand Donoghue asked to be allowed to abandon the south part of section 46, block 1, Wyndham, and to have their purchase-money refunded. Alteration of application agreed to. Ranger Innis reported' on Mr Theodore Baker’s application for twenty acres of the Lower Wakatip bush. The regulations to be adhered to.
Messrs Garden and Petrie submitted plan of bush survey tor approval Approved. Mr Thomas Pollock inquired as to what conditions of his lease Ltd nob been complied with. It was decided that the Provin-; cial Solicitor be instructed to take proceedings against him. The Superintendent wrote in reference to the prop ped inquiry into the sale of land at Reidstown to the effect that, in cases where an inquiry is required by the Board, the result of which may reflect on the conduct of officers in the Government service, it would bo more sptisfactory if the Board would iuform the Government of its wishes. Also ; chat examination of officials would not be allowed until the Government has been consulted as to the constitution of the committee of inquiry.—The matter was postponed till next week.
