PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening in the Town Hall; present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Miller, M'Kenzio, Middleditch, Ro*se, Asher. Menelaus, Dodson, and M‘Gregor. Correspondence was read from the manager of the National Bank, Port Chalmers, intimating his desire that the Corporation should reduce the overdraft. Cr. M'Kenzie moved -and Cr. Dodson seconded—"That in order to rai«e the amount necessary to reduce the overdraft, the Town Cleric be instructed to collect the rents and rates due to the Corporation.” A report from the Waterworks Committee was read recommending the Council to fix a day for the commencement of the Waterworks. Monday, the 15th first, was accordingly fixed! and the Mayor, Crs, Dodson, Miller, and M Gregor were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements. The tender of J. Stumbles, for carting, for six months at las per diem, or 2s per hour, was accepted.
It was agreed to advertise for an Inspector of Waterworks at L3OO a-year, and to call a public meeting “ to hear the explanation of the Port Chalmers representatives at the Harbor Board relative to the proceedings of that body.” .
