RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT. PORT CHALMERS.
Monday, March 8. (Before T. A. Mam-ford, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. —Alfred Barrett was charged with this offence.—Constable Coffey stated accused was parading George street yesterday afternoon, at the head of several other seamen, and accosted the passers-by. On being warned he dared the constable to touch him, and, persisting in stopping the passengers, he was arrested. Accused, who admitted the charge, was fined 20s, or twenty-four hours’ imprisonment with hard labor.—Jacob Douglas, who pleaded guilty, was severely admonished by the Bench and discharged.
