CHEAP COAL.
vuudi \j\ ry\ i/, To the Editor. Sir,—With the opening of our railways, cheap coal was the cherished hope of the writer aud_ of all in Dunedin. But both hope and reality are gone. The writer has just got in his little bill for February 1875, viz., 24s per ton. The charge last year was also 24s per ton. Very good. Carriage last vear was about lls per con by road. This year the charge by rail is 2s 6d per ton. Who gets the difference of my Ss 6d ? I don’t grudge the dealers a good profit, but I should like to have just a little light on a subject of serious importance to so many.- I am, &c.. Consumer. Dunedin, March 6.
