I should like to ask those gentlemen who raise this objectxon. why they have allowed to pass unnoticed, and without loud and earnest protest, such an interference with the liberty of the subject as is involved in the following, clipped from the Provincial Government ‘Gazette’;— .Notice is hereby given, that the ‘Town and Country Police Ordinance, 1862’ (section 5, sub-section 25), enacts that ‘ Any person guilty of carrying any firearms, sword, dirk, dagger, or other offensive weapon, within any town or public place in the Province of Otago, without permission of the local authority, is liable to be fined in the sum of L2o.’ Sailors are therefore cautioned against carrying their sheath knives in towns or public places within the said Province. ” Will they, now that their attention is directed to it, urge that this notice be withdrawn, and section 5, subsection 25, of the “ Town and Country Police Ordinance,' 1862,” be repealed ?
