Mr Waterhouse in the House of Representatives stated he had voted for the Ordinance m South Australia, and was afterwards sorry he had done so, as it (the Ordinance) ruined many, as it was afterwards proved that thistles served to irrigate the land. About a fortnight ago some of the settlers from Saddle Hill waited upon the Waste Land Board, complaining of the thistles in their district, and the JBoard held the same views as Mr Waterhouse. A" 5 4 > v! ly Ti Vay - ls . f( ? r sie$ ie co . u n*ry people to petition the Provincial Council, through the member of their district, to enact an Ordinance penalty than was the case prior o 1870. Admitting Mr Waterhouse’s statement and that of the Waste Land Board, it can only apply to waste land reserves and unoccupied land, but may infest tillage and pasture land. Ihe sooner a Thistle Ordinance is in force the better for the public in general.—l am, &c., W B Dunedin, March 4. I
