Mr Skene reports that the arrivals during the week, although large, are not too much for the demand. Trades are active; all girls are wanted. Wages :—Pick, shovel, and quarry men, from 9s to 12s per day ; ploughmen and farm hands, from L 52 to L 6 5; couples, L 75 to LOO; masons, carpenters, and bricklayers, 12s to 15s; gardeners, grooms, waiters, barmen, &c., 25s to 40s per week; house and hotel females, from L26to L 52 and higher; boys and girls, from fis to 15s per week ; bush and sawmill hands, 9s, 10s, and 12s; shepherds, quiet.
