THE SHARE MARKET.
Mr Hooper reports that the market is still extremely inactive. What few transactions have taken place are confined to bank and insurance stock. The quotations ruling this week are almost identical with last report, excepting Standard Insurance shares, which may be now quoted at from 12s to 12s fid. The returns from the Joint-Stock Mining Companies are exceedingly unsatisfactory, thus depressing the sale of those stocks. From some of the mines there are to hand good reports as to discovering payable ground. Whitelaw and Co. report having held a sale of shares at their rooms to-day, when there was a large attendance of brokers and speculators, and the following rates were offered Standard Insurance, 12s; National Insurance, 28s; National Bank, 695 ; Colonial Bank, 19s fid; Arrow River Gold-mining Co., 7s; Mosgiel Woollen Factory, 565; Kanieri Lake Water Race, 17s. Sellers ; National Insurance, 28s fid; Standard Insurance, 12s fid ; South British Insurance, 50s; Bank of New Zealand, 20s ; National Bank, 755; Colonial Bank, 20s; Mosgiel Factory, 60s; Walton Park Coal, 7s fid; Greymouth Coal Co., 20s; Anderson Creek Gold-mining Co., Eeeftoa, lls.
