THE DUNEDIN CUP.
To the Editor. Siß, - Could you inform me what weight Mr Delamain’s horse Templeton will have to carry in the race for the Dunedin Cup, as there appears to be some > misapprehension on the subject ? His handicap weight was Bst 51bs, and he has increased that, according to my idea, to Ost 31b ; for the programme of the Oup race states that “the winner of any handicap race of 200 sovs, after declaration of the weights, shall carry 7lbs extra, and the winner of any such race of the value of 100 so vs 51bs extra," Now Templeton won at Auckland at the New Year’s Meeting the Cup, of 200 sovs, and the Grand stand Handicap, of 100 sovs. Does not this entail a penally of 12lbs extra on him for our race ? A reply will be valued by a Backer of Horses, Dunedin, February 19. [The Auckland G-. S, Handicap was for 100 sovs, with a sweepstakes of 5 sovs each, the amount accruing from the sweep to go to the second horse. Templeton, by winning, saves his stake, and 5 per cent, is deducted by the Club from the 100 sovs, therefore he does not receive 100 sovs nett. Templeton has consequently incurred only a 7ib penalty.— Ed. 1 E.S.’J
