RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tuesday, February 9. (Before J. Bathgate, Esq., R.M,) Manslaugu ter. —The following evidence was given in the case of Regina v. Miller after we went to press yesterday—Fanny Edgar gav# similar testimony to the previous witness, and said she could not swear to prisoner being the man who pushed the woman down, unless he had his goatee on.—Dr Yates stated that Ryder was received into the Hospital about the 15th ult., and died on the 24th. She was suffering from inflammation of the bowels, which might be caused by a fall such as that described. There were also some cuts on her head.—Dr Garland made a post mortem examination on the 25th, and described the result. In his opinion, peritonitis was the cause of death. Such a fall as that described would probably bring on peritonitis.—Sergeant Anderson, Mary Ann Sutton, John VVilks, and James Crawford gave evidence, which concluded the prosecution.—Mr Stout made some remarks, con ten ding that a primd facie case had not been made out, and bis Worship committed accused for trial—bail being allowed.
