There were plenty of words in the t ngUshl manage with which Mr Caloutt could express his meaning without writing as he had d >ue If he bad suffered auy wrong from the Board he could complain in a proper way —Mr Buttarworth said he had read part o! the letter, and thought it should bo treated with the contempt it deserved —Mr oeid said it treated to a g' eat extent of private business that should not come before the Board, but the first part of it certainly related to public business.—Mr Bastings said the letter referred to the Chief Commissioner. What had the Biard to do with Mr Thomson’s • ffairs except as regarding the < ffioe he hel‘( ? Mr Thomson was chairman of the Board, and they must not allow him to be insulted. If Mr Calcutt. had left off at the first part of the letter he would not hare minded, but he musft now move that it be rotur ed to the writer, with a request that any offer he may have to make be done in a j proper manner.—Mr Butter worth supported 1 the last speaker. The letter showed a want of the respect due to the Board —Mr Miojop ft was Uft jpaost
lei ter in the world It would be an insult to the ( hief Uoimnisdoaer to allow, in his absence, the admission of a letter personally insulting to him. If Mr Thomson and Mr Ca cutt had a private grievance let th ra tight it out between themselves. It was Nnatn-tnously resolved tint the letter be returned to Mr Caicutt, who be requested to confine his remarks to the business he desires to bring before the Board.
