THE COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.
[By Telegraph.] (From our Special Reporter,) Parawai, February 4. All Comers’ Match. First Match.— Ranges, 200 and 500 yards ; seven shots at each range; rifle, muzzleloading—long or medium Enfield ; ammunition, as used by the Government, to be provided by the competitors; entrance fee, ss. The All Comers’ Match commenced at nine o’clock in the morning. Eighty-eight men entered, and these were divided into five squads The scores showed the shooting to be better than dming the Government firing, as better ammunition was used than that supplied by the Government. The following were the score* of the winners

Match was taken, and concluded at seven o’clock, it being the last of the Government matches. Second Match. - Banges, 500 and 600 yards ; seven shots at each range. Rifle, any kind of breach or muzzle-loading rifle or carbine. Sights, any. Ammunition, any, to be provided by the competitors, Bona fide large bore rifles or carbines to receive two points at 500 yards, and three points at 600 yards, if brought into competition with small-bore rifles or carbines. Entrance fee, ss.
• There were thirty-five competitors. Fenton, Churton, Wilson, Christie, Hoskins, and Purnell used small bores, the rest Enfields. Five out of the six prizes were carried off by small bores, the only prize taken with an Enfield being Skinner’s. Christie was again unfortunate, making only 44. The small bores had a great advantage over the Enfields. On Saturday the matches English v. Colonials, and Irish v,' Scotch, ten men a-side, will be fired. The Scotch is considered to be the best team. There will probably be a match for Maories on Saturday afternoon. February 5. It has been raining all the morning, but the weather is now clearing up. The match at black targets takes place after dinner with Enfield rifles, at ranges of 400 and 500 yards, seven shots at each; the match prizes being L 6, L 5, and L 3, with range prizes of L2 each. The following teams for the international match have been posted. Colonials ; Hoskins, Brown, Chase, Gallagher, Morley, Partington, Gordon, M'Laren, Hamlin, Keys, and Kingswell, in waiting. Scotch team: Elder, Wilson, Goldie, M‘Leod, Christie, Campbell, Richardson, M'Lean, M‘lllbride, and Murray. English team : Skinner, Blatch, Blythe, Fox, Gilbert, Grundy, Leigh, Munyard, Purnell, and Sykes. The Irish team is not yet posted, but will include Fenton, Armstrong, Clark, and Grant. Thus of the L6OO offered for infantry prizes, L 440 goes to the North Island, and Ll6O to the South. 3.55 p.m. The 400 yards range is just finished. Partington* wins the range prize with a score of 27. Sutton also made 27.
(From, the Press Agencv. )' y&m. — The protest lodged against Skinner, winner of the championship, was made, on the ground that ho had broken the general rules by measuring his powder and tampering with hia sights. The evidence went to prove that Skinner’s sights had been filed ; but there was nothing tq connect the champion with the act. as the had changed hands half-a-dozen times since it was first issued from the store. Under the circumstances the protest could not be sustained.
