FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE RANGITATA.
[From our own Correspondent,)
.. ~< r , , Crhistchorch, February 5. • a-u In tosh, manager of Dr Fisher’s station in the Mackenzie country, tried yesterday to cross tho Rangitata river with his wife and daughter in a hooded buggy. The fordraan was away, but his brother-in-law, Mr Wragge. who knew the ford well, acted as pilot. The ladies became frightened on reaching the deepest part of the ford and stood up, causing the °ver. Mr Wragge caught Mis* M Intosh as she floated by him, but the force of the water dragged her away. Her body was recovered shortly afterwards, life being quite extinct. There are no traces of the bodies of Mr and Mrs M‘lntosh. The ford was quite low and if the ladies had not lost nerve there was not the slightest danger to be apprehended, ihe horses came out all right, but the hood and buggy were forced from their frames.
