Trade continued brisk during the week, although large supplies are now going up country the market continues well supplied, and prices are unaltered. The Amur, from Foo Cho, has arrived seasonably, and will supply some lines of tea which were getting short. Sugars move off freely at fair prices, good whites commanding L 35 15s to L 36, and yellow, L 33 10s to L 34. Currants fetch 4£d to 4*d ; elemes, ti.fd to 6sd; muscatels, Is ; ale and porter is overstock d, and prices nominal ; candles, a shade firmer, at 10|d ; brandy is in full supply, and a line of Hennessy’s case has been placed at 28s 6d.

THE LABOR MARKET,

Mr Skene reports:—The scarcitj of e v pe rienced farm servants is getting more felt every day. Female servants are in the same position. Tradesmen of any standing are fully employed. There is not a shadow- of excuse for any idlers in our midst; but newly arrived couples, shopmen. and clerks have, as usual, much more difficulty in getting placed than ordinary hone and sinew. Wages : Country couples, L 75 to L9O and found ; handy men for farm and station, T. 55, L6O, and L 65, or 20s and 2 s per week ; no harvest figure yet; smart girls from L 26, L3O, 1.35, and L4O; good hotel do, L4O, L 45, L 52, and more ; dav laborers, 9s and 10s; town masons, 15s per day ; country, 18s ; gardeners, 25s and 30s per week ; boys and girls, 6a, 7b, to IDs per week; sawmillers and bush • men scarce ; carpenters. 10s, 11s, 12s, and 13s ; dairy hands, 15s and 20s per week.
