RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S CO URT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, January 12. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., 8.M.) Ship Desertion. John Jenner was charged by Ihoma * Houstan, master of the ship Piorence. with deserting from that vessel on the 9th inst., and pleaded guilty, Captai Hwustan deposed that on Sunday morning, when going forward, ho missed five of the crew, and finding all their effec : s gone he gave information to the police. !he accused was one of those that deserted. —Sergeant Neil deposed that the accused was arrested last evening at Blueskin.—His Worship sentenced the accused to six weeks’ hard labor; Ciptain Houston to have the option of taking hi-* when ready for sea •11-oed Murdhr.—Thomas Bissett was b'ought up on remand charged with the murder of George Aldridge, on the 29 of ’'ecember. near <ai lor’s Roint, Lower Harbor. Mr Joyce appeared for the accused. -- Prisoner was committed for trial, being allowed bail in his own recognisance of LSO, and two sureties of L 25 each
