The Waimate races took place on the Ist inst. with the following results : —Maiden Plate—Nora, 1 ; Highland Lass, 2 ; won easily ; seven ran. Waimate r up—Theodore, 1 ; Exile, 2; Bobby Bums, 3. Mr Barton declared to win with Theodore, although his other horse, Exile, could have won easily. Handicap Hurdle Race—Theodore, 1 ; Blood Royal, 2. This race was a gift to Theodore. Only two started. Free Handicap—Exile, 1; Nora, 2 ; won hands down ; two ran Consolation Handicap— Bobby Burns, 1 ; alaba, 2 This was a splendid race, Bobby Burns winning by half a head. A Telegraph Electrical Society has been formed by the officers of the t lectric Telegraph Department in Victoria, and from the first quarterly report, just submitted, it appears that the society now numbers 89 members—3B town and 5 L corresponding members. In the inaugural address read by the hoa. secretary, Mr L. 8. Daniel, the objects of the society are thus defined :—l. The aoouiriug of knowledge of the higher branches of telegraphy. 2. The acquiring of knowledge of electrical science in the abstract. 3. The keeping the members informed of the movements and changes that are taking place in the great centres of telegraphy. Members are testricted to the Post and Telegraph department, one reason b ing that if strangers were admitted there might posdbly be objections raised to their being allowed access to the telegraph operating room, where the practical experiments are carried on.
