LATEST PROM FIJI.

By the Southern Cross, which arrived today, we have our Fijian files. On December the 16th an inquest was held at Levuka, touching the death of Mr Louis Myers, of the Thames, whose body had been found drowned that morning in the upper bathing bole at Waitova The body had been first discovered by a native woman, and natives dived and brought the corpse to the surface. The clothes of the deceased, together with a towel and a piece of soap were found on an adjacent rock. From the evidence of Mr Solomon Levy and Mr Horwitz, it appeared that deceased was in the habit of going every morning to bathe in this hole. He could not swim, and had been cautioned by these gentlemen against going there alone, as it was dangerous for nonswimmers. They advised him to get a native to accompany him. Mr Horwitz, who had known deceased for nearly twenty years, deposed that be was a very steady man, and had a wife and family residing on the Thames, New Zealand. He was about 35 years of age, and arrived in the Co’ony about seven weeks ago, in the Star of the v outh, from Auckland. The jury returned a verdict of “ Accidentally drowned.” The deceased was a tobacconist at the Thames, where he leaves a widow and five children. He was brother, we believe of Mr A. Myers, of Dunedin. The murderers of the Burns family are now working on the public roads, their death sentence having been commuted to hard labor for life. The marine department of the National insurance Company of New Zealand has est b ished an agency at Levuka. The transit of ' ecus was not seen at Levuka th weather being cloudy, close, and misty, with occasional rain.
