STANDARD V. NATIONAL INSURANCE.
To the Editor. Sir,— With regard to the alleged opportumty the National Insurance shares offer at their present price to investors throughout the Colony, I would desire to demonstrate that the latest addition to our local Insurance Companies, the Standard, at present quota* tion, say par, offers to my view a far better held. The latter company has had great trials to overcome, no doubt, but these, under good management have been tided over and the shareholders are confident of the future. The fact of the standard being men* tioned until lately in almost every loss from Auckland to Invercargill tells certainly of their misfortune as against the National, but at the same time is a guarantee of the busi* ness doing, whereas the national, being about scot-free from loss outside Dunedin, looks rather as if the risks were confined entirely to the siouth, where its influential body of directors, together with its able manager, commands such a large share of lusmess.—l am, &c., _ _ Time Will Show. Dunedin, December 28.
