Drunkenness.—Ellen Donoghue, an old offender, was fined 20s. with the option of -even days’ imprisonment; and for being an habitual drunkard was sent to gaol for three months Theft —Dennis Johnson, charged on the information of -chofield Haworth with stealing one lantern and kerosene lamp, of the value of 4s, was *>ent to gaol for fourteen days. CIVIL CASES. Judgment was given to.- plaint ffs by default in be following cases: - Allan v Cog*n, claim' I 30, on a promissory note ; Harris v. Win steele, Ll4 2s for boots sold ; Martin and Watson v. I e Brim, LI 8s ; and same v. ! ittfleld, LI ss—both for coals so d. In Ma tin and Watson v O’Prion, M" M'Keay. for defendant admitted the do 1*!-, and produced a bankrupt’s order (if discharge, defendant having recently filed. Judgment was given for <iefendant. but, without cos s. John Barrowmao v. C .p’am Stephens Plaintiff, who wis a passenger by the iinmi■jrant ship Auok’and. sought ’o recover from - - d fondant her master, the sum of 1,50 for alleged short supply of water daring the passage of the boat from la-gow to Port Chalmers. Mr Monat appeared fir plaintiff, and Mr Stout defended.—Plaintiff deposed tnat he and his family (four), (luting the voyage, often thirsted for water A complaint had been made by him on behalf of ihe passengers to the cat,tain—A witness named Thomson said that four of them had to wath ont of one bucket of water, containing as much water as could be held in a tumbler. The defence was that the proper amount of water was allowed.—Judgment was given for defendant, with costs.
