VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The Artillery Company fired for choice of representatives this morning, but owing to the very unsatisfactory weather poor scores were made. Lieut. Muir handed in to Major Atkinson a protest before the shooting commenced, but as to-morrow is the last day' on which the shooting can take place, and as the two Taiori corps have yet to lire, the Major expi'essed his regret at being unable to comply with their request, and the firing was then proceeded with, with the following results : . 200 400 500 600 Tl. Muir 4234344 4433430 4222334 2000002-69 The following is a copy of the protest: —“On behalf of the Artillery' representatives I beg to protest against firing for Colonial representatives to-day', owing to the state of the weather. 4 he mode of shooting of the competitors is a very unjust ouo, in my opinion, and unless all
the representatives are afforded an equal opportunity the result becomes simply a question of weather and not of skill.” [Bi Telegraph.] The Auckland final firing for four Colonial Representatives resulted as follows :—Skinner 88; Leigh, 80; Farrington, S3; Hay, S3; Payne, 82 ; Morrow, SI.
