THE SILVERSTREAM EMBANKMENT.
To the Editor. Sir, —The vera ity ot your own correspondent has been questioned by a writer signed “Settler.” There being tenders c died fo”, and plans and specifications issued for this work, Low does “Settler” liken “your own” to a good many more amateur engineers, and.after informing your readers that he takes as much inter; st in the ilverstream as anyone, term “your own” anew chum in the district? “Your own” has been here long enough to know that there was public money spent uselessly last season, and his suggestion Mas only made in order to secure if possible a proper expenditure this season. a for “Settler” losing his self-reliance, T allow him to know best, but when he speaks for the class to •which he fancies he belongs, his presumption is simoly ridiculous It would only be in adversity, not in prosperity, when he would think of puttiup his shoulder to the wheel. I would ask “Settler” the next time he attacks “ your own ” 10 keep in remembrar ce that, comparisons are odious, and that I am neither a new ebum nor yet an old fogey. —I am, &c., “Your Cwn.” Mosgiel, December 9
