EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held this morning ; present— Ilfs Honor the Superintendent, Messrs Gillies, Beid, and Hislop (secretary). GRANTS The following grants were made : —Green Island, 1,14 ss; Groper’s Hush. LIS ; Ida Valley, LI()(i ; Handy Mount, 1/20; Clifton, T/100 To Limestone Plains, Flint’s Bush, and Clifton (residence) pound for pound, and to Brighton the usual rent allowance was granted, APPOINT}! HINTS. The appointments of Miss Mary Herbert as pupil teacher at Bast Taieri, and Mr Martin Bourke as teacher at Manuka Creek were sanctioned. Mr A rthur Grant, late of Waikivi, was licensed as a probationary teacher at the Invercargill Grammar -cbool. I he committee of Orepuki school had appointed a lady, at nresent in Auckland, as teacher to their school ; but the Bo rd decided to refer to the Auckland Inspector of 'ehools, Mr Hislop saying that he had no certificate of the lady’s fitness. Mr A <smay, who has b en filling the portion of second master at Oamaru was, at the request of the committee, appointed permanently, on condition that he pass the first-class- examination. If he do not so, then to be paid for the time during which he has been act ng at the rate of Ll5O per annum.
