MOSGIEL.

[From our own Correspondent.) December 7. The change in the weather haa restored both animal and vegetable life. Measles have all but left the district, and ttye crops seem to be visibly growing. There will bo a shortness of straw this season, especially on early sown ground. The late crops look everything that could be desired. The tSilverstream is again to be formed. This is becoming an annual arrangement. Question : Is there no method whereby a channel could be had, that it once formed remain so for m -re than one flood ? Before opening a new channel, means ought to be taken to prevent the sand from leavipg its present locatiou'up stream. It is qnlv needless work cutting a channel at the lower end, and allowing the banks higher up to be torn and left unprotected. Ttye old saying would keep good in this case, “Go to the fountain-head firs}C’ That part of the main road at the stream requires to be raised and widened considerably for safe traffic. ’ In tte winter months it is highly dangerous, and lives have been already lost there. The contractor (Mr P. Day) is busy erecting the railway passenger stat ; on and goods sued. The Mosgiel Woollen Factory C*mpany are about to construct gasworks for lighting purposes, the machinery being now on the ground.
