Mr Gillies added —“ > give it as heartily as it. w s g ven to me as a token of rav appreciation of tbe advantages my own family, in common with others, have derived from our educational system, and with a desire in a small way to help on any deserving hoys or girls who may devote tbemselve to that most noble, though too often despised vocation.” In the ‘ Rruce * erald’s’ report it is stated that th<* members of the committee expr- rsed their pleasurable surprise at the munificent gift, which, it was felt sure, would connect the name of the donor with the District and Grammar Schoo’ for ages to come.
