The weekly meeting of the Board was held this morning; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, Clarke, Reid, and Strode. Mr Doughty, for Mr Alex. Dods, applied for a license to occupy section 4, block 2, N,B. Harbor and Blueskin. Refused. The valuation of improvements in Living stone township plap. showing education ; reserve were approved. Ranger Valpy reported on Agnes Ward’s application for the reserve at Lauder Stream bridge, saying that it was required for immigrants’ cottages. Refused. Mr James Cowan applied for authority to construct a school to his wood cutting claim at Two-mile Creek, Lake Wakatipu, Referred to fj anger. Messrs Howorth and Hodgkins applied for costs m the case of O’Kane v. the Waste Land Board. The Board decided that it was not in a position to act in the matter, not having been informed of the decision of the (Court. Mr Mouafc, fop Meswa Herbert Howatand Co., applied for approval of transfers of sawmill leases—Mr Ferry to Mr Thompson, and Mr Youngson to Messrs Herbert Howat and Co. Approved. Mr Warden Wood wrote,, relative to Messrs Stewart and Cow's application top I
a pre emptive right for ran No. 328, which Was objected to by Mr M'Kdlar, at present occupier of the ran.-. Alteration of preemptive right refused. Mr A. R. M‘Kay applied to purchase an acre of land at the o truer of Stockton and Whitby streets, Clyde. Refused. - Messrs Jones and Haldane for a lease of three miles of the coast at “ The Brothers,” for grazing purposes. Refused. The Governmeut requested that the purchasers of sections 33, 34, 42, and-44, bUttk 42, Lawrence, be allowed to pay the balance of the purchase m mey. Approved. Mr K. T. Wheeler, for Mr M'Larn, applied for a lease of 100 acres of the One-Mi'e Bush near Queenstown, a-d for authority to construct a tramway to that town, offering LSO per annum. Referred to the Hanger for report
Mr John Lawson asked an extension of time to survey his sawmill application at WaipOri. Three months’ time granted. The Government recommended that Mr James Stand be appointed Ranger for Hawkesbury. Approved Messrs Bor ton and M‘Master applied to purchase section 21, block 4, Maerewhenua. Sale approved. In reference to the app'ication of the Waikouaiii Volunteers for 200 acres of the beach therefor a rifle range, which came before the Board last week, Major Atkinson explained that a strip 1,500 yards long and 80 yards wide was required. The Board approved of granting a lease, under the recent Volunteer Act.
The amended form of occupation license, under clause 53 of the Act of 1872, was submitted for approval, and was referred to the Provincial tjol cicor to discover if the Board has power to issue the license as submitted —specially drawing his attention to clauses 2, 6, and 7.
