Twenty-two horse* started, and the race was won easily by three lengths, in Itnin 9aec3. The Sylvia colt did not show up at all well. One of Manuha’s off-pring, Mr do Mestre’s br c, out of ■" pring B1 Svrm, was a good fourth.
The next event was the great one of the day, tv e Derby, for which eleven horses ran, Meaindie being the favorite.
Victoria Derby.—A sweepstakes of 25 govs each, with 500 sovs added. For time-year-olds—colts, Bst 101b; fillies, Sst 51b. One mile and a-half. Mr J. Tait’s b c Melbourne, by PanicMyth - (Ashworth) 1 Dr Bathe’s b c Stockbridge, by Stockham Granny - - - (Batty) 2 Mr G. Livingstone’s hj c Scan Mag, by Talk o’ the Hill—Norma - - (Glcesou) 3 Menindie, Polidori, Blink Bonnie, Presto, The Hook, Torchlight. iSerodah. md Mute also ran. Mute and Menindie led for seme distance, the pace being very fast. Polidori got off badly, but before a mils was gone had passed ail the horses, keeping the lead to the, abattoirs, when be w r as displaced ly Stockbridge and bean Mag, who forced the running and ran a cut throat and dies: crate race. Melbourne, meanwhile, had moved up into third place and was creeping up inch by irnh, till, at the stand, he male a tremendous run, and, geit’ng on the inside of Stockbridge, steadied himself for a moment, and then shot to the front, winning a grand race by a neck, ha’f that cli-tance

Hero afteiwards walked over and the stakes were divided. Gloom was amongst the starters.
